What up how are y’all doing this Friday afternoon? We’ve been sitting here listening to some new jams breaking them down thinking them over and we got them here for you today it’s a little bit different than it’s been the last couple of weeks but today I’m gonna focus on five projects that caught my ear this morning. NAS was at the top of that list indeed!
Benny The Butcher & Rick Hyde Ft. G Herbo- “Alone”
Benny has become one of the emcees I’m checking for on a weekly basis. His gritty street rhymes are reminiscent of Raekwon and Ghostface. His new single features Rick Hyde & G Herbo who speak over the dark introspective instrumental and recall what it took to rise and the beauty of now. The Butcher has a new project dropping next Friday I’m excited! This is a good warm-up and so was last Friday’s single.
NAS- “Kings Disease II”
Last year’s “Kings Disease” was NAS’s 14th Grammy nod and first victory. Truly proving emcees only get better with time like a fine wine. The sequel may well be Queensbridge God’s second award. The production on a NAS album is always top-notch his beat selection is always so different and usually works. The eight features all match Nasir well. The Bars on ‘EPMD 2’ are crazy the production on ’40 Side’ & ‘YKTV’ meshes old school n new school perfectly bringing out the best in all three emcees.
We get blessed with a brand new verse from Ms. Lauren Hill on ‘Nobody.’ Eminem and EPMD hop on ‘EPMD 2’ and spit classic bars. Can’t wait for ya’ll to hear if you haven’t yet. 15 tracks adding up to slightly over 52 minutes we get taken into the world of NAS as he paints pictures with his words. Put on your headphones, spark the L, sip the wine, close your eyes and take a trip.
Sizzle- “On A High”
Jamaican native Miguel Orlando Collins AKA Sizzla was born in April of 1976. In ’95 his first reggae project “Burning Up” dropped. Today Sizzla blessed us with “On A High” his 58th studio project! Yes, ya’ll heard correct my man has released 58 solo projects. Which has helped make Sizzla one of the most successful commercially and critically acclaimed reggae artists of all time. ‘On A High’ is 12 joints and 41 minutes long of body moving, head nodding, reflective fun.
Tinashe Jorgensen Kachingwe is Lexington, Kentucky’s native Queen, she’s made the bluegrass state mad proud. Today she dropped her 5th album since 2014, “333” is a sultry, fun, classy R&B spanning 16 tracks stretching 47 minutes in length. An album you can put on and vibe with indeed, Tinashe’s voice is very similar to Jhene Aiko’s but different enough and she switches to more falsetto at times.
Hippo Campus- “Good Dog, Bad Dream” EP
Hippo Campus the Squad from Saint Paul, Minnesota has released 4 albums, and today they dropped their 5th EP. It’s a super funky, fun, singalong project that lets you know there are still real musicians out there. 5 tracks and 15 minutes of music that makes you move with lyrics that make smile and the sometimes inquisitive lyrics. Enjoy IMUer’s let your ears explore some new textures.
