🤘🏼Meet Indonesia’s Dopest Rock🎸Band A Trio Of Females🎙
Indonesia, VOB (Voice Of Baceprot): When I saw this on my YouTube feed I had to do a double-take. Rock & Roll culture is alive and well in southeast Asia. Thailand has an amazing ‘Punk Rock’ scene, Japan has a strong rock culture, and today I was introduced to ‘Heavy Metal’ in Indonesia. I am flat out impressed with the musicianship of these young ladies that form VOB (Voice Of Baceprot).
This story is so authentic to the rebellious, angsty, beautifulness that is rebel rock. These three young ladies have totally gone against the grain of their Indonesian culture and the result is incredible. Women their age are usually married or engaged by know and planning for a family. VOB had different visions for themselves at a young age.
Voice Of Baceprot (VOB) formed in Garut West Java, they are made up of Fridda Marsya Kurnia (Vocals & Guitar), Widi Rahmawati (Bass), and Euis Siti Aisyah (Drums). All three women are Muslim and wear the traditional hijab, staying true to their creativity and culture. Conservative Muslims have expressed how they feel and are opposed to the all-female rock trio. That’s when you know you’re on the way to success because everyone who hates another is going to celebrate.
Wearing a hijab should not be a barrier to the group’s pursuit of its dream of being heavy metal stars. I think gender equality should be supported because I feel I am still exploring my creativity. While at the same time, not diminishing my obligations as a Muslim woman.

VOB has gained a strong global fanbase on social media and has been playing online festivals throughout the pandemic. Two cool facts before you peep the videos; 1. “Baceprot” in the Sundanese language means “Noisy.” 2. Fridda sings in Sundanese and English.
