In the Channel Islands National Park off the coast about 20 miles near Santa Cruz Island in California the 75 foot commercial diving boat Conception embarked into flames. 5 people survived the blaze and were rescued by good samaritans who took them on board their vessel.
One crew member suffered minor injuries, four members were taken ashore, the Captain of the Conception remained on the scene, Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer Josue Mendez said.
The crew members were in the main cabin and were able to jump off and be rescued, the remaining passengers were sleeping below deck in the berthing area of the boat, Aaron Bemis a member of the coast guard told reporters.
Hope still remains as the Coast Guard are searching the coastline and surrounding area for any survivors as we speak. The fire took place around 3:14AM, the fire was difficult to contain as firefighters chipped away at the flames the boat sank into 64 feet of deep blue ocean. Cause of the fire is still unclear, our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved we still have hope others may have survived.
