71st ANNUAL EMMY AWARDS RECAP

Los Angeles California was brighter than usual with stars from TV and Film last night out to celebrate the best of the best in honor of the 71st Emmy Awards.
There were two big winners last night one was a lock the other a bit surprising and history making. HBO smash series Game Of Thrones was up for an astounding 32 nominations. The big surprise of the night was underdog contender Fleabag took home three big awards; best comedy actress, a writing award and a directing award, that’s a triple threat of a show. Phoebe Waller-Bridge the shows main actress and creator was dumbfounded when she won and extremely grateful.

During her acceptance speech Waller-Bridge said “Oh my God, no. Thank you. I find acting really hard and really painful. But it’s all about this.”
Other award winners included Bill Hader who won his second best comedy actor for the show Barry. Patricia Arquette won best supporting actress for a limited-series or movie actress for her roll in The Act. Ben Whishaw took home best supporting actor for A Very English Scandal, Alex Borestein & Tony Shalhoub who star in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel both won supporting acting awards. Quite possibly the livest moment of the evening was when the crowed shook the house for Jharrel Jerome who won his first every Emmy at the youthful age of 21 for his roll in When They See Us. He won the award for outstanding lead actor in a limited series movie playing Korey Wise, who was one of five wrongfully convicted men known as the Exonerated Five. A case of a group of young African American men who were innocent yet still convicted in New York City. Jerome made history last night begin only one of 9 Dominican Americans to ever win an Emmy Award for acting.
FYI: Only 9 Latinos have ever won acting awards at the Primetime #Emmys. After Jharrel Jerome’s historical win last night, this serves as a reminder that there’s still much work to be done in Hollywood. 👏🎬 pic.twitter.com/0J0YHMSj9H

Jerome had this to say during his acceptance speech; “Most important, this is for the men that we know as the Exonerated Five.” All five men were in attendance brought by Jharrel himself, when he won they stood and were honored.

Netflix acclaimed series Chernobyl won the best limited series Emmy. Pose star Billy Porter also mad history last night he became the first openly gay black man to be nominated and win the Outstanding lead actor in a Drama series.
