A Deadly 6.4 Richter Scale Earthquake Shakes Puerto Rico To The Core
Over the span of one week, Puerto Rico has been shaken by over 100 earthquakes. On Tuesday morning just before dawn, the strongest one measuring a 6.4 on the Richter scale hit the region causing widespread power outages.
The Mayor of Ponce, Mayita Melendez took to twitter and told the world a 77-year-old man was killed. She also reported to WAPA that eight people have been injured.
On Monday a quake with a 5.8 magnitude collapsed five homes in the coastal town of Guanica. The iconic tourist spot of Punta Ventana pictured in our cover photo collapsed and dozens of homes have been damaged.
The onslaught of earthquakes has been going on since December 28. What is causing the quakes? The North American plate and the Caribbean plate are squeezing Puerto Rico.
