A Heart-Warming Story We All Need To Hear “I’m Not Lucky, I’m Blessed”
Jose Villarruel is a substitute teacher who clearly made an impact. Sometimes the ones who leave the largest impressions on others go unnoticed the most. Former student Steven Nava noticed.
One day on his way to work Nava saw a man in a parking lot, as the day went on he couldn’t stop thinking the man he’d seen was his former student teacher. Steven said he always remembered how funny Mr. V was and how nice he was to the students.
Nava mustered up the courage one day and confronted Mr. Villarruel to ask him what was going on? After hearing Mr. V’s story, he became inspired to help the man who impacted him in a positive way. Witnessing how negative his former teachers’ circumstances were, Nava started a go-fund-me.
Initially, the goal Steven wanted to raise was $5,000. After 24hrs $4,000 had already been raised! Naturally, he upped the ante to $10,000 and wound up receiving $27,000! This story goes to show humanity is still alive and well. Mr. V sacrificed so much living in his car for years and having to send the majority of his money to his family in Mexico.
I think it’s safe to say Jose Villarruel will never have to spend another night in his car ever again. What do you think IMUer’s how does this story make you feel? Are there any teachers you’ve had that stand out to you? Let us know in the comments section below.
