Last nights game between the Houston Astros and the New York Yankees was a perfect depiction of the allure October baseball has to offer.
The Astros got the upper hand early going up 3-0 on a Yuli Gurriel homer in the bottom of the first off of Chad Green. Didi Gregorious doubled in the top of the second off Brad Peacock with two outs, catcher Gary Sanchez stepped to plate and smacked one up the middle for a base knock allowing Didi to cross the plate to make it a 3-1 game.
In the top of the fourth Yanks third
Roberto Osuna started the inning looking to close it out and get the Astros back to World Series. Gio Urshela had other plans he singled off the righty and found himself on base for the fourth time in the game. Osuna than got Gardner swinging on a changeup, which brought DJ LeMahieu to the plate who smacked a two-run game-tying blast into right field just out of reach from the leaping George Springer. On to the bottom of the 9th we go, tied at 4 runs apiece, you couldn’t ask for a better script this is reality TV.
Aroldis Chapman came in looking to shut down Houston’s bats. Chapman walked Springer to start the inning, next to the plate came José Altuve, he stepped into a 2-1 pitch from Chapman and drove the ball into the stands in left-center field for the dramatic victory sending the Astros to face the Washington Nationals in the World Series starting on Tuesday night.
