Coco Gauff Stuns Defending Champ Naomi Osaka At Australian Open
Coco Gauff made history by becoming the youngest player in the professional era to oust the reigning champion at the Australian Open. On Friday at Melbourne Park Coco defeated former No.1 Naomi Osaka 6-3, 6-4 in round 3 of the open.
The 15-year-old also became the youngest player since Jennifer Capriati (15) to defeat a top-five opponent in a women’s tour-level match. The last time was in 1991.
“Honestly, like, what is my life? Like, oh, my gosh! Two years ago, I lost first round in juniors and now I’m here. This is crazy.”
-Coco Gauff
“You don’t want to lose to a 15-year-old, you know?”
