Coronavirus Update: 24,300 Infected 490 People Have Passed Away
The coronavirus that originated in Wuhan in December is adapting, infecting and killing people every day. One of the most recent developments is out of Japan. The Diamond Princess cruise ship is docked in the port of Yokohama and is on lockdown. 10 people on board tested positive for the coronavirus.
300 of the 3,700 people have been tested so far. The number of infected could rise with that many people in close quarters. An 80-year-old Hong Kong man who had been the ship at least a month contracted the virus. A second cruise ship docked in Hong Kong will be testing all 3,600 people on board.
Chinese health authorities have been stepping up their efforts to try and control the spread of the virus. 18 million people in the eastern part of the country are now required to stay at home.
The epicenter of the virus Wuhan has turned 11 large public venues into makeshift hospitals that will provide an additional 10,000 beds for the infected.
The number of cases jumped up nearly 4,000 on Tuesday and 65 people passed away. Now more than 24,300 people are infected and 490 have passed away.
