German Chemical Complex Explosion Injures Many, Kills 1, 4 Missing
Leverkusen, Germany: A massive blast in an industrial park following a fire in Western Germany happened Tuesday morning. The explosion injured several, took the life of another, and at least 4 people are still missing. A lot of details are unclear as to what chemicals could be dangerously flowing around in the air. There is a close eye on the weather as the day progresses.
Currenta said the explosion occurred at a tank farm that is part of its facility and that the fire had been put out. It added that a search was underway for four employees who were missing. Sixteen others were injured in the blast, four of them seriously. (DW)
Chempark urged residents of Leverkusen, which lies 20 kilometers (13 miles) north of Cologne, to “go indoors and keep doors and windows closed.”
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident and the death of an employee, rescue efforts continue at full speed to find the workers still unaccounted for.”
