USA/Russia: Hackers have attacked, hacked, and disrupted peoples lives once again. REvil the Russian gang of hackers are back at it again. This crew is notorious for hacking into JBS one of the globe’s largest suppliers of meat. Cybersecurity experets close to this case say this one is ‘unprecedented.’
REvil began poking its tentacles around the web on Friday starting with Kaseya, a software company who helps manage basic software updates for companies. The fact Kaseya has so many clients the virus spread quickly locking an individual organization.
El Presidente Joe Biden has taken action directing the full resources of the government towards investigating the issue at hand.
Swedish grocery chain Coop has been hit most intensely having to close all 800 stores on Saturday loosing out on millions. It is unknown how many companies have been affected in total. 1 million is a lot, as of now 1,000 individual businesses have been affected.
Mikko Hypponen who is a researcher at the cybersecurity company F-Secure broke it down like this.
“Think about a retail chain, like grocery retail,” Hypponen said. “Every single cashier system is an endpoint. Every laptop. Everybody in the sales has a system, multiple servers. 200 stores, 300 stores, they alone would have thousands of endpoints. And if a thousand Coop-like companies were infected, yes, you would have a million endpoints.”
