With the future of the Olympics up in the air, it’s perfect timing the New Olympic Museum is opening in Athens. The Museum is located in the Maroussi district right near the Olympic Park Complex where many of the 2004 games went down. Welcome IMUer’s take a walk through the museum below and leave us your feedback in the comments.
The stunning massive building spreads across 3,500 square meters and the inaugural exhibition takes the viewer deep into the history of the games. They even take us back to Ancient Olympia, which is billed as the birthplace of the Olympics. The exhibit also features memorabilia from countries all around the globe. Equipment, torches, flags, even medals will all be on display. Nine-meter high walls in the exhibition room are filled with posters and info from every single opening ceremony. This gorgeous space was designed by a local architecture firm, KLab and Mulo Creative Lab.
“We had infinite sources of inspiration for the overall composition. We had many objects to work with, supported by other museums and cultural bodies.”
-KLab Director, Konstantinos Labrinopoulos
