Newark’s Historical Bear and Eagle Riverfront Stadium Is No Longer With Us.

The infamous Newark Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium has been home to the Newark Bears, Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders, and NJIT Highlanders. The stadium had run from July 1999 to August 2019. There will be a new development known as Riverfront Square. Consisting of new luxury apartments and retail stores as well. Many Newark natives are very excited about the new changes within Downtown Newark. While others feel as if it’s another form of gentrification within the city.
As we all know, Newark is greatly enriched with culture and distinct history. Being introduced to many changes within the city and rent being raised brings many concerns to Newark natives. Newark is already home to Amazon’s “Audible” and Prudential. Both bringing the city great business and more residents. The stadium was also a factor in bringing many tourists from around the world.
Downtown Newark is a growing community and will be open for more opportunities for the city. A 7-Plan development could be just what this city needs to get positive recognition. Riverfront Square being the beginning of the modern Newark and the end of Newark’s most prized possession.
