Overpass Collapses In Mexico City Killing And Injuring Dozens Of People
Last night in Mexico City a tragedy happened that shouldn’t have. A train traveling on an overpass fell from the sky when the support system gave way. The graphic video shows the overpass collapsing down on a busy street in Mexico City, and you see two train carriages hanging in midair. It’s been reported that 23 people have passed away and at least 65 others were injured, amongst those who passed some were children.
The overpass that tumbled to the street was built a decade ago it was on the Metro 12 line. Marcelo Ebrard the Foreign Minister was mayor of Mexico City at the time. Ebrard had this to say via Twitter.
“What happened today with the Metro is a terrible tragedy. My solidarity is with the victims and their families. Of course, the causes must be investigated and responsibilities defined.”
-Ebrard
Our thoughts and prayers here at IMU Media go out to all the victim’s families and friends. Such a shame something that is essentially not anyone’s fault, but the failure of a structure that’s built to support that type of weight on daily basis. Engineers must come up with solutions and create stronger materials so a tragedy like this does not have to be seen again.
