Southern Coast Of California: 144,000 gallons of crude oil has leaked into the Pacific Ocean early Sunday morning. The leak stemmed from a broken pipeline less than 100 feet deep and 4.5 miles off the Huntington Beach coastline. Oil-covered birds and fish are already washing up onshore. Oil spans about 13 square miles and could become an ecological disaster if it can’t be contained.
Beaches could be closed down for weeks as workers work round the clock to get this cleaned up while protecting and saving as much wildlife and preserving as much of the wetlands as they can.
