Princess Mako To Marry Commoner Losing Her Royal Status

Japanese Princess Mako met her fiancé Komuro while they were both attending Tokyo International Christian University in 2012. The 29-year-old is the granddaughter of former Emperor Akihito. The engagement was first announced in 2017 but had rto be postponed due to a financial dispute.
Imperial Japanese law states that only male heirs are allowed to inherit the throne. Princess Mako’s fiancé Komuro is known in his town of Fujisawa as the “Prince Of The Sea” prior to meeting his royal fiancé. The fact that Mako is marrying a commoner and the two plan on moving to New York City after the wedding she’s losing out on over $1 million which she was due to receive to begin her new life outside of Royalty. Talk about unfair.
Hypothetically, if the single remaining Princess married a commoner, they also would lose their royal status. Doing so would leave the Imperial Family without enough family to carry out their public duties. Chew on that a minute, what is really going on in Japan inside the “Imperial Family.”
