Rwanda Unveils First Smartphone Made Completely In Africa

The newly released smartphones are a product of Rwanda’s Mara Group, owned by business mogul, Ashish J. Thakkar. Thakkar came to the conclusion that affordability and great quality smartphones were much needed throughout Africa. That’s when the Mara phones were born. The urgency to introduce high tech products in Rwanda was long overdue according to Rwandan President Paul Kagame.
There will be two manufactured models, Mara X and Mara Z, which are both ran off of Google’s Android operating system. It is said that the smartphones are reportedly a bit more expensive than other devices. There continues to be hope that consumers are willing to pay a little extra for better quality. The product comes with a warranty and may also be paid in installments within two years.
With the support of President Kagame and the wits of Thakkar this will be a great introduction of quality and one of a kind technology for Rwanda. Africa is no stranger to the world of technology, being that Mara Group is a multi-sector business services company. On October 17th, the Mara Group is set to launch their next Mara phone factory located in South Africa.
