World Series Game 1 Goes To The Nationals

The Fall Classic got underway last night in Houston, Texas at Minute Maid Park we saw a pitching matchup for the ages. Max Scherzer took the mound for the Nats he was opposed by Astros ace Gerrit Cole.
Houston got out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st. George Springer walked, Jose Altuve then singled to left giving the Astros two base runners with no outs. Yuli Gurriel stepped to the plate and smoked a two-run, two-out double off the wall in left-center giving Houston the early lead.
In the top of the second Ryan Zimmerman smacked a solo shot off Cole to make it a one-run game. Juan Soto in the top of the fourth tied the game with another solo shot off Cole to make it a new ball game at two runs apiece.
On to inning number five, Gerrit walked one, gave up a single, a fly ball and a base hit by Adam Eaton put Washington up 3-2. Anthony Rendon broke his bat on a chopper towards third and Houston was unable to turn two due to Rendon’s speed, next up was red-hot Juan Soto who doubled off the left-field wall scoring two giving him 3 RBI’s for the night and putting Washington up 5-2.
We would stay that way until the bottom of the seventh Tanner Rainey was in from the bullpen facing George Springer and he belted a solo shot that brought life back to the fans and made it a 5-3 ballgame. Bottom 8, Springer stepped to the plate again and this time came just feet from tying it up when the ball hit just off of Eaton’s glove, the double knocked in Kyle Tucker to make it 5-4.
Sean Doolittle started the 9th, he got Alex Bregman swinging, Yuli Gurriel then flew one out to center, it all came down to Carlos Correa who lined out to center to end the game giving the Nationals a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.
