Rising Stars: New Jersey Athletes Carve Their Paths to Opportunity

Navigating the challenges of collegiate athletics can be daunting, especially when faced with complex decisions like jumping into the transfer portal. For two New Jersey natives, Amir Britt and Alexander Lorenzo, the latest chapter in their sports journeys is a testament to perseverance and skill.

Amir Britt, hailing from Edison, NJ, boasted a commendable 3.6 GPA at the University of North Texas. Despite his academic success, he faced disappointment when he missed his opportunity to walk on to the basketball team. Instead of letting this setback define him, Amir embraced a different role as the team’s manager, practicing diligently alongside the squad throughout the year. Unfortunately, the opportunity he envisioned for the 2024 season did not materialize. Undeterred, he dedicated his summer to the IMPACTUNIVERSE mentorship program, designed to place student-athletes in suitable divisions and programs aligned with their aspirations.

Similarly, Alexander Lorenzo, a native of Hackensack, NJ, made the strategic decision to transfer from NAIA Division I Huston-Tillotson University. After participating in the eight-game limit of his first season, he chose to redshirt to preserve his eligibility for the future. His experience ranged from starter to role player, providing him a unique perspective on team dynamics.

This summer, both athletes showcased their talent during the Rucker Park Summer League and the Jersey Shore Basketball League (JSBL), making indelible marks in the process.

Their hard work has finally begun to pay off. Amir recently secured a scholarship opportunity at Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee, under the guidance of Head Coach Harold Rayford. Maintaining a 3.4 GPA and having earned membership in the Honor Society, Amir is a player on the basketball team and has averaged 2 points and 2 rebounds this season.

Alexander has also found his path, this time at St. Elizabeth University in New Jersey, where he earned a scholarship and with an impressive 3.67 GPA this semester, he is on the basketball team and is contributing 3 points and 6 rebounds per game in his play.

As the season unfolds, fans and followers can eagerly anticipate seeing these academically accomplished athletes shine both on the court and in the classroom at their respective institutions. Their stories are a reminder that resilience and hard work can lead to new opportunities, even in the face of adversity. Good luck to the Lane-dragons and St. Elizabeth Eagles
